Today we are going to talk about #11 on our list of things we should say more often.
Aw! You got me a corn dog too! You shouldn’t have!
We are back to corn dogs again. A corn dog is one of my favorite things to eat. Despite the humor conveyed here, it does get to a deeper, more meaningful point. When one of our friends gets us a gift, we need to accept it graciously. It does not matter how big or small the gift is, it is the idea that they were thinking about us. They wanted to brighten our day and our day should be brightened by a gift from our friend.
We say that they shouldn’t have, but in reality, they should have. Not because you are some person who deserves gifts every day of the week, but because that is what a friend does for another friend. It is a way to show someone you care and that you are thinking about them.
When we receive a gift from a friend, we need to let that person know that it is appreciated. We need to let them know that their act was special to us. If it is really a corn dog that they get you, then you can be extra happy. It is a corn dog after all.
Our assignment this week is to be sure that the next time one of our friends gets something for us, we show them a cheerful and appreciative response. We need to show them that their gift, no matter how small, means the world to us. That is how you keep friends. If you are in a period where no one else seems to be getting you any small gifts, you might want to consider being nicer to them. Just kidding! If you really do want a chance to practice this though, you may need to get the ball rolling by getting some of your friends some gifts. It never hurts!
