Did You Know That About the Big 12?

big 12

I might be a little biased, but I think that the Big 12 Conference is one of the best conferences in all of collegiate sports.  Granted, my team is Iowa State and since they are in that conference, I tend to have rose-colored sunglasses on, but when you really stack the Big 12 Conference to other conferences in collegiate athletics, the Big 12 is pretty special.

If you are a fan of the Big 12 and like me, and spend some time tailgating in the fall before football games, you might find that after you have caught up on current events with your friends, you might need some things to talk about.

Here are some interesting facts about the Big 12 Conference that you can share with your friends and family.  They may even convince them that you actually know what you are talking about.  I found these fun facts in The Ultimate Sports and Travel Guide to the New Big 12, which is a pretty interesting book that you should check out if you are a person who travels around to away games in the Big 12 Conference.

1 winner of the Big 12 football season will face the SEC champ in the 2015 Champions Bowl.

2 mascots who carry a firearm.  These are West Virginia’s Mountaineer and Oklahoma State’s Pistol Pete.

3 conference champions from the 2012 football season started the 2013 season in the Big 12 Conference.

Oklahoma State (Big 12 Champions)

TCU (Mountain West Conference Champions)

5 states are represented in the Big 12 Conference, encompassing a population of more than 37 million people.

5 Heisman Trophy winners have call the Big 12 home.

7 appearances in the BCS National Championship game.

7 teams in the Big 12 Conference finished the 2011 season ranked in the top 25 of the final BCS standings.

19 years the Big 12 has been a conference.

4,200 is the total number of student-athletes represented by the Big 12.

In 1996, I was playing football at Iowa State and I got to experience the transition of Iowa State from the Big 8 Conference to the Big 12 Conference.  The merger of the Big 8 and those 4 Texas schools from the old SWC was a good thing then and it continues to be a good thing.  Through those first few years as a conference, we forged a new road that has led to continued growth and success.  I have seen ups and downs.  Great seasons with much promise and even saw the edge of the cliff as it appeared that the Conference might become extinct a few short years ago.  Today the Big 12 Conference is as strong as it has ever been.  The future is very bright for the Big 12 Conference and I am just so proud that I was able to be there to experience it in its infancy.  I am excited to watch the development of this conference for many years to come.

About wmarsau

Most of the people who visit this blog already know me so it is kind of pointless to try to describe my life in this short little blurb. What is the purpose of this blog is the question. Over the course of this last year I have been exposed to some amazing people and have made personal development an important focus of my life. Being successful, not by the world's standards, but by God's has become my main focus. Mainly, I want to work to develop myself as a person who is kinder, reaches out to help those in need, and truly makes a difference in this world. To this end I am constantly reading and am exposed to so many differnet things along the way. These have been amazing and it is helping me grow so much. Then I started to think, "Why am I being so selfish?" You need to share with others these amazing things you are learning and being exposed to. That is where this blog comes into play. As I am reading and experiencing things that are truly amazing and life changing, I will be posting them on this blog. Obviously, I will not be able to post everything in it's entirity, but I will be summarizing them and letting you know the source of the article or book they come from so you can check them out later if you wish. I want this blog to be a place where you can go to often and be inspired and leave here with a smile on your face. I will be covering all kinds of different topics dealing with success and personal development. Topics like taking action, relationships, living to your potential, reinventing yourself, finances, leadership, presenting, goal setting, time management, etc. I will also be occasionally including topics on cooking, music, and gardening because they are special interests of mine. As a little disclaimer, I have given my life to the Lord and he is #1 in my life. I am his servant and everything I do in life is for his glory. With that being said, religion influences all areas of my life. There will be references to God in this blog because I can't seperate God from this or any other area of my life. I want you to know that if you do not believe in God, that is fine. That is your choice. This blog is open to anyone who wants to better their life. I will not be trying to influence or pressure anyone into having a relationship with the Lord from this site. Please don't feel uncomfortable. You can just read the portions of the blog that you wish to. I am inviting you to go on a journey with me. We will learn together to be the kind of people we were designed to be. Anyone can make a difference in this world, but it starts%
