In this blog I am going through 15 challenges that the late Jim Rohn dared us to pursue in our own lives.
Today we will be talking about the twelfth challenge that Jim Rohn gave us.
Find Your Place
If you just work on a job, find the best place you can serve well, and sure enough they’ll ask you to occupy a better place. And if you keep doing a job well, do the very best you can. That’s your best way out. Here’s a Bible phrase. If you work on your gifts, they’ll make a place for you.
It is the age-old question: Where do I belong? It is a very valid question. The problem is that there is no one person here on earth who can give you an absolutely correct answer. The only One who can really answer this question for you is God. That sounds great in theory, but the problem is that God does not always give you a clear answer. Sometimes He does, but not always. Usually God will just drop hints into your life and it is your job to figure it out. That is the beauty and curse of being human. We are sinful by nature and tend to get things wrong more than we get them right, but every once in a while we get it right and our world seems to come into perfect alignment.
So the questions come to us again:Where do I belong? While there is seldom a clear answer, there are things you can do to help yourself figure this out.
You can figure out what the things you love to do are. What makes you the most happy? If you can find a way to be doing those things you love and actually make a living doing them, you will never work a day in your life. Usually, we don’t get to do exactly what we love to do, but if you can have elements of your job be things you love, you will find that your overall satisfaction in the place you are will be high.
God gives each of us special spiritual gifts. It would be worth your time to figure out what those are for you. (I will be doing a blog series sometime later this year on this topic and we will figure out what our spiritual gifts are together.) Once you know what your spiritual gifts are, you can try to find a place for yourself by utilizing these gifts. These gifts will be the ones you are naturally good at and the ones you will best be able to make an impact on those around you with. If you find a place for yourself where your spiritual gifts are being allowed to shine, you will be in a pretty good place.
If you place a high priority on serving others, you need to find a place for yourself where you will be able to serve others regularly. You will want to be in a place where you know you are making a positive influence in the life of others. If you can find that place, you will find happiness and you will make a difference in people’s lives.
We can also look at this question at face value. I mean as in what place you live. Do you live in the state you grew up in? Do you even live in the Untied States? It can be so hard to know exactly where the place you are supposed to be is. While I can’t give any answers to this directly, there are things you can do. Talk to God. Ask Him to show you where He wants you to go. Find out about yourself so you know what situations you will be most effective in. Be on the look out for little things in your life that might steer you in a different direction or take you to a different place than you are currently are in.
In the meantime, just do the very best you can at the place you are right now. Give it your best of everything day after day. If there is a different place you should be, it will become apparent in time. I promise.
I would like to challenge each of us to really look within ourselves and to God to see if we are currently in the place that we should be. Don’t be afraid to try something new. The new place might be so much better than where you are right now.
