In this blog series I am going through 15 Challenges that the late Jim Rohn dared us to pursue in our own lives.
Today we will be talking about the sixth challenge that Jim Rohn gave us.
Believe in Yourself
You’ve got to believe in God and you’ve got to believe in the community. You’ve got to believe in the possibilities. You’ve got to believe in the economy. You’ve got to believe that tomorrow can be better than today. Here’s the big one. Believe in yourself. There isn’t a skill you can’t learn; there isn’t a discipline you can’t try; there isn’t a class you can’t take; there isn’t a book you couldn’t read.
Aside from your very closest friends and family, there are few others who has a strong belief in you. This is just a fact. There are lots of people who will say they are behind you and believe in you, but when the time to really show it comes, they go running.
The truth is that you must have a strong belief in yourself if you want to accomplish major things in your life. They say you can’t truly love someone else until you learn to love yourself. There is a lot of truth to that statement. If you don’t believe that you will be able to do something, chances are that you won’t be able to do it. On the other hand, if you have a very strong belief in your own ability to do great things, the sky is the limit.
Part of having a strong belief in yourself is having a positive outlook on life. Are you a person who sees the glass half full? If not, you should. A positive person always tries to see the good in any situation. When setbacks come, as they always do, a positive person will see an opportunity to grow and will seldom stay down for long.
If you are a person who struggles with having a strong belief in yourself, there are things you can do to improve that belief. You can surround yourself with people who will build up your self-esteem. People who see potential in you that you don’t see. I must warn you though, putting your dependence for self-worth in people is a very dangerous thing. You never know for sure if they will be there tomorrow. Life circumstances sometimes take people away from us and if that happens, you might find yourself even lower than you were before.
My recommendation would be to develop a strong relationship with God. God loves you unconditionally. God has great plans for your life, more than you can even comprehend. The best part is that He will NEVER leave you. He is there for the long haul. He will talk to you 24/7. You never need an appointment.
I would like to challenge each of you to maximize your belief in yourself. If this is an area that you struggle with, find ways to improve your belief. With a strong belief, there is nothing you can’t do.
