I have to be totally honest here. This recipe scares me a little bit and I was hesitant to share it with you. I am not traditionally a fan of tuna from a can. I love having a grilled tuna steak, but the canned version does tend to keep me away.
On the other hand, I love asian flavors and with the ingredients in this recipe, I think it might make the canned tuna seem not so bad. Part of making a commitment to being more healthy means that I have to get out of my box a bit and try some things that I am not totally sure about. Therefore, I decided to go ahead and share this recipe.
I will admit that I have not tried this yet, but it is on my list of things to try and I will at some point soon. This burger, looks to have a lot of strong flavors, which will make you forget that you are eating something that is really healthy. I would like to encourage you to step out of your box as well and try this recipe along with me. Please let me know what you think. I hope you enjoy!
2 (6 ounce) cans tuna, drained and flaked
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
3 green onions, minced
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon teriyaki sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
In a large bowl, mix tuna, egg, bread crumbs, green onions, and garlic. Blend soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, sesame oil, and pepper into the mixture. Form the mixture into about 6 patties approximately 1 inch thick. Lightly sprinkle each patty on all sides with cornmeal.
Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Fry each patty about 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
