You Have To:Seven Practical Things to Being a Leader Today

Learn

The topic of leadership is one of the most talked about topics there is, especially when it comes to improving yourself.  There is no doubt that being a good leader is a huge part of having any kind of success.  You have to have the ability to lead yourself and those you work with in order to get maximum effort and return on your inputs.

There are literally thousands of tips out there for being a good leader.  In today’s blog, I would like to give you seven practical and brief things that you can work on today to make yourself a better leader today.  Consider these as 7 “you have to” things that really can’t be missing if you want to be considered a good leader.  Being a good leader is not rocket science, but it does take some deliberate effort on your part to constantly work to improve yourself as a leader.  Here is a good start for today.

You have to be adaptable

Things change fast these days.  Real fast.  You must lead a team that responds accordingly so you can stay on top of the curve.

You have to be moldable

You must personally change fast too…or you’ll be left behind.  This does not mean you have to change your values, beliefs or convictions.  In fact, that will work against you these days.  People would rather be on your team and disagree with you some (difference of opinion is more acceptable today) than for people to think you are wishy-washy in what you claim to believe.

You have to embrace a team approach

There are no Lone Rangers today.  Everyone works in teams.  Teams get more done and it is just foolish and unproductive to try to do everything yourself.  You will never keep up.

You have to consider social responsibility

People want their individual work to make a difference.  they also want the place where they spend their time, whether paid or volunteer, to make a difference.  As a leader, you need to make sure that what you are doing will make a difference when it comes to the big picture.

You have to think bigger than today

Tomorrow is coming quicker than ever before and people are looking for leaders who can provide competent direction and consistent encouragement.  If you are only concerned about where you are at today, you will quickly get left behind.

You have to be willing to serve others

People will no longer follow an autocratic leader.  They are less loyal than ever.  If you want to remain their leader, you must prove you care for them personally.  Trust is more important than having all the answers.  A great leader is focused on serving those who work for them.

You have to allow others to receive credit and assume authority

It’s what attracts leaders to your team these days.  People love to be recognized and you, as a leader, needs to make sure that is happening.  They want to feel they are playing a part in the team’s success.  Just remember, your success depends on their success.

These are seven things that are required in leadership positions today.  As leaders, we must understand the context of the culture in which we find ourselves.  The way we lead, motivate, and recruit people has changed.  If we don’t recognize that, we will be less successful in accomplishing what we want to accomplish in our lives.

About wmarsau

Most of the people who visit this blog already know me so it is kind of pointless to try to describe my life in this short little blurb. What is the purpose of this blog is the question. Over the course of this last year I have been exposed to some amazing people and have made personal development an important focus of my life. Being successful, not by the world's standards, but by God's has become my main focus. Mainly, I want to work to develop myself as a person who is kinder, reaches out to help those in need, and truly makes a difference in this world. To this end I am constantly reading and am exposed to so many differnet things along the way. These have been amazing and it is helping me grow so much. Then I started to think, "Why am I being so selfish?" You need to share with others these amazing things you are learning and being exposed to. That is where this blog comes into play. As I am reading and experiencing things that are truly amazing and life changing, I will be posting them on this blog. Obviously, I will not be able to post everything in it's entirity, but I will be summarizing them and letting you know the source of the article or book they come from so you can check them out later if you wish. I want this blog to be a place where you can go to often and be inspired and leave here with a smile on your face. I will be covering all kinds of different topics dealing with success and personal development. Topics like taking action, relationships, living to your potential, reinventing yourself, finances, leadership, presenting, goal setting, time management, etc. I will also be occasionally including topics on cooking, music, and gardening because they are special interests of mine. As a little disclaimer, I have given my life to the Lord and he is #1 in my life. I am his servant and everything I do in life is for his glory. With that being said, religion influences all areas of my life. There will be references to God in this blog because I can't seperate God from this or any other area of my life. I want you to know that if you do not believe in God, that is fine. That is your choice. This blog is open to anyone who wants to better their life. I will not be trying to influence or pressure anyone into having a relationship with the Lord from this site. Please don't feel uncomfortable. You can just read the portions of the blog that you wish to. I am inviting you to go on a journey with me. We will learn together to be the kind of people we were designed to be. Anyone can make a difference in this world, but it starts%
