When The Children Cry

children 1

For today’s song, I wanted to do some sort of tribute song for the victims of Sandy Hook.  When The Children Cry by White Lion was one of the first songs that came to mind.  I realize that this song was written many years before any of the children victims were born, but I think it is a very fitting tribute song.  80’s hair bands were a special group of musicians in a very special time in the history of music.  they were known for great rock anthems and the power ballad.  This song is one of those power ballads.  It is sad and moving.  The lines are very powerful and fitting.  The song is mostly done with acoustic guitars, but during the instrumental break they come on with a powerful electric guitar solo.  This is the essence of what makes a power ballad.  These songs were very special and I thought this would be a good time to bring one back.

The chorus is really moving to me:

when the children cry
let them know we tried
when the children fight
let them know it ain’t right
when the children pray
let them know the way
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

children 5It is so true.  Our future is dependent on our children.  The children represent everything for us.  That is why it is so gut-wrenching when we see them murdered.  It just seems so senseless.  It is almost as if this song was written all those years ago just for this occasion.

White Lion as a group was here and then gone.  They had a few bigchildren 6 hits including this one so they are more than a one hit wonder, but they were not around very long.  They were here for a very short time and then they were gone.  At least we have the music to remember them by.

children 7I think that music is one of the best ways to pay tribute to someone.  I hope that you find this song as moving as I do.  If you have heard it before, this will be special because you have probably not heard it in quite a while.  If this is your first time hearing it, I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.  I hope this song can bring comfort to those who are hurting because of this senseless act.  It has been one week since it occurred and the pain will lessen with time, but it will never completely go away.  It is important to remember.  Hopefully this song will help.

children 2When the Children Cry” is a song performed by the rock group White Lion.  It is the third single and 10th and final track on their 1987 album Pride.  The single peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, #7 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and #88 in the UK in early 1989.

The song features a music videochildren 3 and was also re-recorded in 1999 on the album Remembering White Lion (also released as “Last Roar” in 2004) and a live version was released on the album Rocking the USA.  The re-recorded and live versions were both released as promo and later iTunes singles.

children 4In early 2003, just before the beginning of the Iraq War, it was covered by Christian indie rock group Seventh Day Slumber.  In 2008, the song was sampled by Sabac Red on “As Children Cry”.

When the Children Cry

by White Lion

little child
dry your crying eyes
how can I explain
the fear you feel inside
cause you were born
into this evil world
where man is killing man
and no one knows just why
what we have become
just look what we have done
all that we destroyed
you must build again

when the children cry
let them know we tried
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

little child
you must show the way
to a better day
for all the young
cause you were born
for all the world to see
that we all can live
with love and peace
no more presidents
and all the wars will end
one united world
under god

when the children cry
let them know we tried
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

what we have become
just look what we have done
all that we destroyed
you must build again
no more presidents
and all the wars will end
one united world
under god

when the children cry
let them know we tried
when the children fight
let them know it ain’t right
when the children pray
let them know the way
cause when the children sing
then the new world begins

About wmarsau

Most of the people who visit this blog already know me so it is kind of pointless to try to describe my life in this short little blurb. What is the purpose of this blog is the question. Over the course of this last year I have been exposed to some amazing people and have made personal development an important focus of my life. Being successful, not by the world's standards, but by God's has become my main focus. Mainly, I want to work to develop myself as a person who is kinder, reaches out to help those in need, and truly makes a difference in this world. To this end I am constantly reading and am exposed to so many differnet things along the way. These have been amazing and it is helping me grow so much. Then I started to think, "Why am I being so selfish?" You need to share with others these amazing things you are learning and being exposed to. That is where this blog comes into play. As I am reading and experiencing things that are truly amazing and life changing, I will be posting them on this blog. Obviously, I will not be able to post everything in it's entirity, but I will be summarizing them and letting you know the source of the article or book they come from so you can check them out later if you wish. I want this blog to be a place where you can go to often and be inspired and leave here with a smile on your face. I will be covering all kinds of different topics dealing with success and personal development. Topics like taking action, relationships, living to your potential, reinventing yourself, finances, leadership, presenting, goal setting, time management, etc. I will also be occasionally including topics on cooking, music, and gardening because they are special interests of mine. As a little disclaimer, I have given my life to the Lord and he is #1 in my life. I am his servant and everything I do in life is for his glory. With that being said, religion influences all areas of my life. There will be references to God in this blog because I can't seperate God from this or any other area of my life. I want you to know that if you do not believe in God, that is fine. That is your choice. This blog is open to anyone who wants to better their life. I will not be trying to influence or pressure anyone into having a relationship with the Lord from this site. Please don't feel uncomfortable. You can just read the portions of the blog that you wish to. I am inviting you to go on a journey with me. We will learn together to be the kind of people we were designed to be. Anyone can make a difference in this world, but it starts%

One Response to When The Children Cry

  1. Definitely a fitting song. I didn’t realize that White Lion wrote this song. I know it by the cover that Seventh Day Slumber did. But I love that song, and the ’80s rock ballad in general.
