Top 25 Rock and Roll Performers

Well, we have reached another Friday.  As you may have seen the pattern going, Fridays have a post involving music.  This is because Fridays are my favorite day of the week and it is always good to have some music to get your weekend started.

Today, will have the subject of music, but it will not involve a specific song.  A couple of weeks ago as I was passing some time in a hotel in northern Indiana, I watched a VH1 special on the Top 100 Rock and Roll Performers.  This list was voted on only by performers.  This inspired me to make my own list of the Top 25 Rock and Roll performers of all time.

I will give you my reasoning for my top 3 and just list my remaining 22 performers.  Please feel free to make your own list as you see they should be placed and share it with the other readers and myself on this blog.  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Starting at the very top of my list we have the Beatles.  As some of you may know, they are my favorite group of all time, but despite that, I think they stand alone among the top.  I will have you know that all the artists polled voted the Beatles as #1 as well so I don’t think I am too off.  There have been lots of amazing performers over the last 60 years, but only a handful that have transformed the industry.  The Beatles move quickly to the top of the list.  They started out with pretty conventional be-bop “I love you ya ya ya” hits, but then around 1965-1966 they turned the rock world upside down.  Maybe it was aided by the drugs they were consuming at the time, but drugs can’t fully create that type of music.  It started on the “Revolver” album and then went completely off the chain with “Sergent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”  It continued into “The Beatles” or it has come to be known, “The White Album.”  It is a double album that takes you on a complete musical journey.  Every song is completely different.  If you have never taken the time to listen to this album, do yourself a favor and get it and listen to it.  In my opinion, it is the greatest album of music ever released to the public, any era, any place.  The Beatles changed how the game was played and they have influenced almost every performer who has come along since in some way.  I have included a video of the song “Strawberry Fields Forever.”  This is the song that made me a Beatles fan in the fall of 1995.  Isn’t college great?

The next performer I put is Bob Dylan.  This may make you say what?  Look, I agree that he does not have the most soul-soothing voice ever, but his creative genius is unmatched.  His amazing writing skills and creativity are now entering their 6th decade.  Now think about that for a minute.  How many groups and performers have come and gone in that time.  He sings from the soul and the poetry he puts into his lyrics are like nothing I have ever heard from anyone else.  The next closest would be Jim Morrison of the Doors in my opinion.  He is another artist who has had tremendous influence on other performers including the Beatles.  I have included his original version of “Hey Mr. Tambourine Man.”  Yes he wrote it and later the Byrds covered it.  This is my very favorite Bob Dylan song.

Third on my list is Michael Jackson.  What an amazing performer.  When I was a very young boy, Michael was just coming onto the scene as a solo artist.  When “Thriller” came out, the show was over.  I had never heard anything like it.  I was absolutely obsessed with that song.  In those days it was cassette tapes and I actually had to buy a second cassette of that album because I wore out the first one by playing it so many times.  Sorry for making you listen to it so many times mom.  I have never seen dancing like that before or since.  By the way, as hard as I tried, I was never able to do the moonwalk.  Michael was different, but there has never been anyone with as much talent as him.  There would not be rap music today if not for Michael.  Absolutely fantastic.  It was a very sad day the day he passed away.  And yes, I have included “Thriller” remastered.  Still great.

About wmarsau

Most of the people who visit this blog already know me so it is kind of pointless to try to describe my life in this short little blurb. What is the purpose of this blog is the question. Over the course of this last year I have been exposed to some amazing people and have made personal development an important focus of my life. Being successful, not by the world's standards, but by God's has become my main focus. Mainly, I want to work to develop myself as a person who is kinder, reaches out to help those in need, and truly makes a difference in this world. To this end I am constantly reading and am exposed to so many differnet things along the way. These have been amazing and it is helping me grow so much. Then I started to think, "Why am I being so selfish?" You need to share with others these amazing things you are learning and being exposed to. That is where this blog comes into play. As I am reading and experiencing things that are truly amazing and life changing, I will be posting them on this blog. Obviously, I will not be able to post everything in it's entirity, but I will be summarizing them and letting you know the source of the article or book they come from so you can check them out later if you wish. I want this blog to be a place where you can go to often and be inspired and leave here with a smile on your face. I will be covering all kinds of different topics dealing with success and personal development. Topics like taking action, relationships, living to your potential, reinventing yourself, finances, leadership, presenting, goal setting, time management, etc. I will also be occasionally including topics on cooking, music, and gardening because they are special interests of mine. As a little disclaimer, I have given my life to the Lord and he is #1 in my life. I am his servant and everything I do in life is for his glory. With that being said, religion influences all areas of my life. There will be references to God in this blog because I can't seperate God from this or any other area of my life. I want you to know that if you do not believe in God, that is fine. That is your choice. This blog is open to anyone who wants to better their life. I will not be trying to influence or pressure anyone into having a relationship with the Lord from this site. Please don't feel uncomfortable. You can just read the portions of the blog that you wish to. I am inviting you to go on a journey with me. We will learn together to be the kind of people we were designed to be. Anyone can make a difference in this world, but it starts%
